One of the most prolific scorers in in the history of Men’s Ice Hockey, Richard Nestro helped fuel a legendary four year winning streak from 1987 to 1991. In the process, this extraordinary player and team leader set program records and helped elevate Skidmore to a new level of competitive strength.

Among the top five all-time scorers in virtually every offensive category, Nestro remains the program’s fifth all-time scorer (90 games played, 67 goals, 89 assists and 156 points). He continues to rank fifth in all-time points per game (1.73) and goals per game (.74). Fourth in all-time career goals (67), Nestro is second in all-time power play goals (28) and fifth in all-time short-handed goals.

Team captain during his senior year, he helped lead the Thoroughbreds to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South Playoffs in 1988 and 1991. Men’s Ice Hockey flourished during Nestro’s time at Skidmore; achieving a team record of 50 wins, 41 losses and three ties.  Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach Rob Hutchinson observes, “I never had the opportunity to see Rich play, but his offensive numbers and the success of the program during his tenure are truly impressive. Rich and his teammates played a significant role in driving the program forward and laying a foundation for our transition to the top conference in Division III hockey, the ECAC East (currently NEHC). He is certainly deserving of this honor, and we are proud to have him represent the program in this year’s induction class.”
