Since the beginning of his tenure as President, Philip A. Glotzbach has championed athletics as an integral part of a liberal arts education. His commitment to supporting a first-rate athletics program at Skidmore is not only reflected in the College's Strategic Plan; it is manifest across campus in a multitude of ways.

Under Glotzbach's leadership, Skidmore initiated a large-scale renovation of its athletic facilities. This includes the addition of weight, athletic training and team locker rooms to the Williamson Sports and Recreation Center and major upgrades to Wagner Park, Wachenheim Field and Valentine Boathouse.

As a result of his sustained push for increased athletic funding, all varsity teams have full-time head coaches, and the number of assistant and part-time coaches has grown significantly. A top-notch support staff - including sports medicine personnel, sports information specialists, a strength coach and administrative staff - rounds out the expansion.

Glotzbach launched The Thoroughbred Society to celebrate the academic achievements of high-performing student athletes. He reached out to athletic alumni through the Friends of Skidmore Athletics and created the Hall of Fame to honor those who helped build today's competitive teams. The Skidmore Thoroughbreds can now claim 10 national championship teams, 215 National Collegiate Athletics Association Division III All-Americans, 85 Conference Championships, and 22 COSIDA Academic All-Americans.
