Two-sport athlete Peter Conlin brought exceptional talent, heart and leadership to Men’s Ice Hockey and Men’s Soccer — setting records for individual achievement while elevating both teams to new levels of competitive strength.
Peter was key to helping Men’s Ice Hockey capture three of four consecutive Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South regular -season titles (1994-1997). A 1st Team All-League selection (1997-1998), he captained the Thoroughbreds to a 15-8-1 finish that season. Under his leadership, the men were ushered into the powerful ECAC East. This extraordinary achievement laid the foundation for the program’s subsequent rise to prominence and earned Peter ECAC All-Star honors. The ice hockey defenseman set program records with over 100 points and maintains his place among the top 10 all-time scorers.
His deep knowledge of the game allowed Peter to transition easily from forward to defense for the benefit of the team, recalls Hall of Famer Chris MacMahon ’97. “He possessed a rare ability to see the whole ice — knowing instinctively when to pass the puck ahead and when to take it up the ice himself.”
Peter’s athleticism shone just as brightly on the soccer field, where he helped the Thoroughbreds grow into a regional powerhouse. Team captain his sophomore, junior and senior years (1996-1998), he was named MVP and an UCAA 1st Team All-Star in 1997 and 1998. That year, he was recognized with Skidmore’s Senior Athlete Award.
