Al Antonez '83 is widely regarded as an exceptional student athlete who helped lay the cornerstone for Skidmore's Men's Golf program. A true pioneer, Antonez originated the Skidmore Men's Golf Club in 1979 and, armed with a winning combination of athletic talent, leadership skills, and an unwavering love of the sport, he partnered with the Student Government Association and later Athletic Director Tim Brown to establish Skidmore Men's Golf as a varsity team in 1982.

The strength of the fledgling program was due in no small measure to Antonez's stellar performance on the links. Honored as team MVP three times with the Talbot Award (1981-83), he captained the men his junior and senior years. In 1983 he was also selected Skidmore Senior Athlete of the Year and captured top player honors at the Mayflower Conference Tournament. Coach Tim Brown recalls, "Al's positive and hardworking approach was second to none."

As an alumnus, Antonez's devotion to Skidmore Men's Golf has continued undiminished. A key supporter of FOSA's annual golf tournament, the Thoroughbred Cup, he has hosted the team at his home during tournaments held in Rochester, NY. His dedication to helping Men's Golf continue to flourish as a top-ranked, nationally recognized program leaves a lasting and inspirational legacy.
