A four-time All-American, Women's Tennis champion Amy Wachenheim McCaffery '01 compiled an impressive 81-23 singles record in three seasons at Skidmore. She competed in National Collegiate Athletic Association singles tournaments (1999- advancing to the quarterfinals, 2000, 2001) and in doubles in 2001 with partner Heather Wood '01.

McCaffery was also part of three Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association and New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams. While serving as captain of the Thoroughbreds her junior and senior years, she was named to the UCAA First team in both seasons and was awarded Player of the Year in2000. In addition, she received Skidmore's Senior Athlete Award.

She says Skidmore gave her the opportunity "to play high-level tennis" and benefit from a coach (Jeff Segrave) who "not only cared about the competitive success of the tennis team, but about the success of each team member as a person." Highlights of McCaffery's Skidmore career included winning the Rolex Regional tournament and participating in the NCAA Division III nationals, as both an individual player and part of a team.

After Skidmore, she continued to play tennis competitively and coached at the high school and college level, including a year at Skidmore (2007-08).
