A fierce competitor and among the best doubles players in Thoroughbred history, James Davidson '01 played #1 singles and doubles all four years of his Skidmore career with the Men's Tennis team. Davidson and Will Crawford '01 captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference North Regional doubles title in 2000. Later in the season they won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rolex East Regional Tournament, marching through the draw without losing a set.

The duo went on to compete in the ITA Rolex Small College Nationals, finishing seventh in the tournament. Overall, the doubles team ranked ninth in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III. By spring 2001, the Thoroughbred co-captains had earned ITA All-America status and Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association All-Conference honors. Davidson was All-Conference in singles as well.

Other career highlights for Davidson include ECAC Doubles Champions (1998) and Middlebury Invitational Doubles Champions (2000); in addition to playing on two UCAA Championship teams, he was also a member of two Runner-up teams (1998, 1999). Former Men's Tennis Coach Paul Arciero says Davidson “led by example. He was a true competitor and a wonderful role model for the other players. He made me and all of his teammates better.”
