Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Eight different players recorded a point as the Skidmore College field hockey team improved to 4-0 with Wednesday afternoon's 5-1 victory over Oneonta at Thoroughbred Field.
With the win, the Thoroughbreds remain undefeated and extend their home winning streak to 20 games. The Red Dragons fall to 2-2.
Skidmore got the scoring started early as
Lauren Tobias scored twice in the first 5:09 to give the Thoroughbreds the early advantage. Her first goal came at the 1:53 mark when
Annie Rosencrans sent a pass across the circle that Tobias sent pass keeper Tess Tracy and her second goal came off a rebound from Celidih MacNeill less than four minutes later.
Freshman
Sam Skott made it 3-0 at the 32:16 mark when she redirected
Molly Gile's pass from outside the circle for her first collegiate goal. Just a few minutes later, Gile tallied her first of the season on a blast from the top of the circle off a penalty corner.
Hilary Cranston and
Annie Weis both assisted on the goal to make it 4-0 at half.
Skidmore pushed the lead to 5-0 on a goal from
Kelly Blackhurst at the 47:12 mark off a pass from Tobias on a corner.
Oneonta was able to get on the board late when Andrea Day sent a pass across the goal to Kristen Jerauld for her first of the season, making it 5-1 but the Red Dragons were unable to build on that goal as the Thoroughbreds secured the victory.
Haley McDougall improved to 3-0 on the season, stopping all five shots she faced over the first 59:58.
Amy Beck came in for the final 10:02 and allowed one goal. Tess Tracy finished with 11 saves on 16 shots in the losing effort.
"Scoring a goal less than 2 minutes into the game and a second one 4 minutes later, gave the Thoroughbreds the early lead, and a lot of confidence" said coach
Beth Hallenbeck. "The domination continued as Skidmore lead 4-0 at the half, and finished the game with a 5-1 victory.
Haley McDougall was perfect in goal playing 60 minutes with the shut out intact.
Jackie Slocombe was dominant at midfield, and
Annie Rosencrans and
Kelly Blackhurst were key up front setting up many scoring chances.
Sam Skott notched her first collegiate goal,
Molly Gile registered a goal and an assist in a 2 minute span, and
Lauren Tobias tallied 2 goals and an assist in the winning effort."
Skidmore held a 9-3 advantage on penalty corners and outshot Oneonta, 26-9.
The Thoroughbreds open league play on Saturday, when they host RPI at 1 p.m.
