Skidmore heads to Connecticut for NCAA Regionals

Thoroughbreds will face Brooklyn College in NCAA First Round match

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team is heading to Middletown, Conn. for the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Friday, May 10. Skidmore, the nine-time Liberty League Champions, will take on Brooklyn College, winners of the CUNYAC.
 
NESCAC Champion Wesleyan (15-2) is the host for the regional round. Skidmore (13-6) and Brooklyn (16-3) will meet on Friday at either the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts or the Bacon Field House (inclement weather). The opening round winner will face either Brandeis (12-7) or Penn State-Abington (8-6) in round two on Saturday. On the other side of the regional, Wesleyan will receive the opening-round bye, and will face the winner of Messiah (9-8) and Rhode Island College (17-0) on Saturday.
 
The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second- and third- rounds played at regional sites, Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, or Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 20-22 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.
 
The Thoroughbreds make their 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament and are in the tournament for the 23rd time in program history. Skidmore won its only NCAA title back in the 1998 season. This season's team is ranked 16th nationally, and defeated Vassar 5-1 in the Liberty League Championship match on Sunday to earn the automatic bid. Brooklyn College won the CUNYAC Tournament to earn the league's automatic bid, defeating Hunter College 5-1 back in October.
