Chandra, Muratori claim 2026 ITA Northeast Regional doubles championship

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's tennis team capped a standout weekend hosting the 2026 ITA Northeast Regional as first-year Nandini Chandra and sophomore Ginevra Muratori claimed the doubles championship on Sunday.

The Thoroughbred duo defeated top-seeded Sophia Cunningham and Helena Lynn of Saint Francis in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, to give Skidmore its second regional doubles title in three years and clinch automatic All-American status in the process. Muratori, the reigning regional singles champion, followed up with another deep run by reaching the singles semifinals before falling to Vassar's Sieun Lee, 7-5, 6-3.

DOUBLES RESULTS
  • Chandra/Muratori defeated Hamilton's Challapalli/Dani, 8-2, in the first round and followed up with an 8-0 sweep of St. Lawrence's A. Karera/Y. Karera to advance onto the quarterfinals.
  • In the quarters, the Skidmore pairing cruised past NYU's Bondarenko/Wang with another 8-2 win, before taking down Vassar's Banziger/Kirby in the semifinals, 8-2, to qualify for the championship match.
  • Skidmore's duo of sophomore Ellie Lake and senior Coco Prokop also advanced past the first round after taking down St. Lawrence's Iuri/Oldland in an 8-5 result. The duo fell in the second round to Hamilton's Farah/Qian, 8-5.
  • Competing in the B draw, the Thoroughbred duo of junior Maggie English and sophomore Mia Rosenberg made it into the finals after first defeating Oneonta's Plue/Rufrano, 8-5, that was followed by an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence's Fritz/Jones. The duo lost in the finals, 8-4, to Rochester's Ahmed/Caldwell.
SINGLES RESULTS
  • In the first round, Muratori conceded just three games to Scranton's Gisele Falzone in a 6-0, 6-3 straight sets win, and followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ithaca's Alys Pop to advance onto the round of 16, where the sophomore took down Yvette Karera of St. Lawrence in a 6-0, 6-4 decision.
  • In the quarterfinals, Muratori clinched a comeback win in three sets over NYU's Emma Kast, 3-6, 6-1,6-3, to advance onto the semis.
  • Lake won her first-round matchup against Vassar's Liya Pomfret in a comeback tiebreak victory, 4-6, 6-0 (10-2), before falling to St. Lawrence's Elisa Iuri in the second round 6-2, 6-0.
  • Nandini took down Oneonta's Haley Peck in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, before falling to RPI's Gauri Muliyil in a tiebreak 7-5, 1-6 (5-10) in the second round.
  • Junior Samantha Jacobs defeated NYU's Ashley Petrauskas in a 7-6, 6-2 straight sets victory, before falling to Vassar's Lee in the second round, 6-2, 6-1
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds will travel out to Northampton, MA next weekend to compete in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11.
