GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore Risa Fukushige and freshman Dea Koiava will meet in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional singles­ semifinal, as the Skidmore College women's tennis team wrapped up day two action on Sunday.
 
Fukushige, the top seed, defeated 16^th-seeded Sarra Yekta of Vassar in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 in the round of 16, then got by  eighth-seeded Sophia Aulicino of Hamilton in the quarterfinal 6-3, 6-2. Koiava, seeded sixth, defeated 14^th-seeded Katrine Luddy of TCNJ 6-0, 6-2 in the round of 16, then upset fourth-seeded Frances Cornwall of Vassar in the quarterfinal, 6-3, 6-1.
 
The semifinal winner will face the winner of NYU's Flyora Shiyanova and Coco Kulle, guaranteeing a Skidmore-NYU final in singles.
 
Freshman Audrey SooHoo nearly disrupted the other end of the bracket. After dropping the first set in her round of 16 match to the fifth-seeded Shiyanova, the 15^th seed dominated in a second set win. SooHoo would eventually fall by a narrow margin in the final set, with the final score going the way of Shiyanova, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Freshman Sofia Carlsson also fell in the round of 16, as the 10^th seed fell to Aulicino, 6-2, 7-5 to complete her first ITA tournament.
 
In doubles, the team of Fukushige and Koiava would make a run to the semifinal. The top-ranked doubles duo defeated sixth-seeded Andrea Giacobbo and Grace Minassian of TCNJ in the quarterfinal 8-1, before falling just short to the defending champions in Shiyanova and Kulle, 8-7.
 
The ITA Northeast Regional will conclude on Monday.
