SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team begins Liberty League action this weekend as St. Lawrence comes to Wagner Park on Saturday at 3 p.m. This contest serves as Skidmore's annual Thoroughbreds vs. Cancer event.
The event, in its eighth year, serves as Skidmore's effort to further raise cancer awareness. The team will be collecting donations throughout the day and t-shirts will be sold, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

The Thoroughbreds (3-3) enter this weekend's contest after a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against New Paltz at home Wednesday afternoon. Senior
Gabby Hyman scored and freshman
Mariah Redler tallied the overtime game-winner in the 74
th minute.
Hyman, who became the 16
th player in program history with 100 career points back on Sept. 15, currently leads the team in scoring, with five goals and two assists for 12 points. She's tallied a point in all but one contest this season. Redler is second on the team with six points, off three goals scored. Seniors
Marissa Folts and
Emily Richmond are tied for third with five points apiece. Folts also leads the team in assists (three) and is tied with sophomore
Natalie Metzger with the team lead in defensive saves (two).
In cage, senior
Elizabeth Coughlin currently holds a 2.03 goals against average and a .771 save percentage, starting in all six contests.
St. Lawrence comes into this Liberty League opener with a 2-4 record. In its last contest, the Saints defeated Manhattanville College 3-1 in the second game of the William Smith Tournament on Sept 16.
Leading the team offensively is Lucy Stillman, who has 12 points on four goals and four assists. Bailey Sherwin shares the goal scoring lead and has nine points (four goals, one assist.) First-year Maggie Green rounds out the top three with six points on three goals.
In cage, Lexi Oskam has a 3.25 goals against average and a .675 save percentage in five starts. Sydney Giacin was solid in her first career start last Sunday and will likely start in this one. She holds a 0.50 goals against average and an .800 save percentage, playing 140 minutes of game time this season.
Last year, Skidmore defeated St. Lawrence 3-0 in Canton, N.Y., back on Sept. 23, 2017.
