WILTON, N.Y. – The No. 20 Skidmore College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 2 Williams, in non-conference action at the Wilton YMCA Saturday afternoon.

Skidmore, ranked 20^th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National poll, falls to 5-2 on the season. The Thoroughbreds will spend a few days in Tampa, Fla., before heading to Fredericksburg, Va. for the Blue-Grey Invitational, hosted by Mary Washington on March 16-18. Williams (2-0) will head to California on March 18, taking on Southwestern (Tx.).

Despite the final tally, the Thoroughbreds kept things close against the Ephs. In doubles, freshman Risa Fukushige and sophomore Ada Wiggins competed for the first time as a doubles pair, falling by an 8-5 score at No. 1 to Juli Raventos and Julia Cancio, the No. 8 doubles pair in the country according to the ITA rankings.

Williams would sweep doubles play to set up the six singles matches. Skidmore's best performance went to Fukushige at No. 3, who took the first set in her match against Chloe Henderson. Henderson rallied to win the second set and the two would battle in the tie breaking third set, before Henderson pulled off a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory. Junior Laura Swenson also put up a good battle in the first set of her match at No. 5, falling to Cancio 7-6(4), 6-0. Sophomore Renee Karchere-Sun battled in the second set of her match, but fell to Rachel Cross 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2.

The Thoroughbreds will face Swarthmore (March 16, noon), No. 15 Johns Hopkins (March 17, 3 p.m.), and host No. 16 Mary Washington (March 18, 9 a.m.) in the three-day event.
