SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The No. 20 Skidmore College women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a loss to No. 2 Middlebury, 9-0 at the Wilton YMCA Sunday afternoon.
Both teams are ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III women's tennis polls. Skidmore finishes the regular season at 10-7, while Middlebury improves to 13-3.
Before the match, Skidmore honored its lone senior,
Madie Benn.
The top two doubles matches came down to the wire, as Middlebury's Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger defeated Skidmore's Benn and
Michelle Fuca by an 8-5 score at No. 1.
Ada Wiggins and
Brianna Greene dell to Middlebury's Kaysee Orozco and Catherine Blazye 9-7 at No. 2.
In singles,
Danielle Giannetti took the first set of her fourth singles match, but fell to Maddi Stow 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. Fuca rallied to take the second set after dropping the first, but dropped the third set and the match to Molly Paradies at No. 3, falling 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
Skidmore will prepare for the Liberty League Tournament, held at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y. on May 5-6. The Thoroughbreds will take on William Smith in the semifinals.
