SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The 20th-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over Trinity (Conn.) in non-league action on a cool Saturday afternoon at the Skidmore College Tennis Courts.
Skidmore, ranked 20th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III women's tennis polls, improves to 10-5. Trinity, ranked 19th in the Northeast region, falls to 6-8.
The teams of
Madie Benn and
Michelle Fuca at No. 1,
Ada Wiggins and
Brianna Greene at No. 2, and
Jessica Ampel and
Alexa Goldberg at No. 3 gave the Thoroughbreds a doubles sweep and a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles, Greene shut out her opponent at No. 6, defeating Sydney Schonefeld 6-0, 6-0.
Renee Karchere-Sun allowed just two points in her 6-1, 6-1 victory against Sara Curtis at No. 5. Benn (6-4, 6-0 at No. 2) and Giannetti (6-1, 6-2 at No. 4) also picked up big victories.
Jillian Winer and Vanja Babunski picked up the Bantam victories in singles play.
The Thoroughbreds will wrap up the regular season at home on Sunday, hosting No. 2 Middlebury at 1 p.m.
