No. 40 Skidmore completes 7-0 sweep of RIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The No. 40 Skidmore College women's tennis team stayed perfect in Liberty League play with a clean 7-0 sweep over RIT at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (3-6, 3-0 Liberty League) won both doubles matches competed in, before securing four straight-sets victories in singles play to take down the Tigers (3-8, 0-2 Liberty League). 

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • In first doubles, the Skidmore duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez earned a hard-fought 6-4 victory over RIT's Emily Greb/Kira Kronenberg.
  • In second doubles, the Thoroughbred duo of Ellie Lake/Maggie English conceded just two games in a 6-2 win over the Tigers' Melanie Saborio/Anika Gallkiewitz.
  • In third doubles, the pairing of Mia Rosenberg and Ruth Wilson won by default due to RIT not fielding enough competing players for the match.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • In first singles, first year Ginevra Muratori conceded just one game in a dominant straight-set victory over RIT's Emily Greb, 6-0, 6-1.
  • In second singles, freshman Amelie Gonzalez held off the Tigers' Kira Kronenberg in a competitive second-set to win the match 6-3, 7-5.
  • In third singles, first year Ellie Lake cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory over RIT's Melanie Saborio.
  • In fourth singles, sophomore Maggie English defeated Anika Galkiewicz in straight sets in a 6-1, 6-3 result.
  • In fifth and sixth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg and junior Ruth Wilson both won by default due to RIT not fielding enough competing players for the match.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds return to action next Sunday by hosting The College of New Jersey in the annual Stable Game. The starting time is set for 10 AM.
