Thoroughbreds fall to TCNJ, 4-3, in stable game match

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's tennis team fell in a competitive 4-3 Stable Game match to The College of New Jersey at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Sunday.

The Thoroughbreds (3-7) dropped the initial doubles point before responding with straight-set victories at first through third singles. However, the Lions (11-0) secured wins at fourth through sixth singles — capped by a third-set victory at fourth singles — to ultimately clinch the match.

"Tough battle today. It's tough to see in our record, but this team is making great strides," said head coach Curt Speerschneider. "These are new challenges and situations for almost every player in our lineup and they're taking it head on and putting it out there every time. This was one of those matches that will benefit us down the road."

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • At first doubles, the Skidmore duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez took down TCNJ's Zoey Albert/Shruti Mannan by a final score of 6-3.
  • However, the Lions would win the overall doubles point after conceding just one game between the second and third doubles matches.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • At first singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori conceded just two games to cruise to a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets victory over TCNJ's Eleni Dakos.
  • At second singles, first year Amelie Gonzalez held off TCNJ's Zoey Albert 7-5 in a competitive first set, before closing out the match in straight sets with a 6-1 second set win.
  • At third singles, freshman Ellie Lake took down the Lions' Gabrielle Brideau in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
  • At fourth singles, sophomore Maggie English battled back from a 6-2 first-set loss to take the second set, 6-4, but TCNJ's Shruti Mannan clinched the match with a 6-2 win in the decisive third set.
  • At fifth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg took three games in the first set, before ultimately falling in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to the Lions' Gabriella Robinson.
  • At sixth singles, junior Ruth Wilson dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to TCNJ's Elizabeth Ring.
