CANTON, N.Y. The 20th-ranked Thoroughbreds returned to Liberty League action in a big way, defeating St. Lawrence 8-1 at the Newell Field House Sunday evening.
 
Skidmore improves to 7-5 overall and improved to a perfect 6-0 in league play. St. Lawrence now stands at 5-7 and 2-2.
 
The Thoroughbreds swept doubles to open a 3-0 lead, with Madie Benn and Michelle Fuca defeating Georgia Comber and Emily Wyman, 8-2, at No. 1, and Jessica Ampel and Alexa Goldberg defeating Hallie Young and Katherine Apt, 8-5, at No. 3, and Ada Wiggins and Brianna Greene defeating Alexandra Dadoly and Lia Petersen by a narrow 9-7 score at No. 2.
 
Skidmore won five out of six matches to take the 8-1 victory, with Wiggins, Benn, Fuca, and Renee Karchere-Sun winning in straight sets. Brianna Greene gutted out a three-set, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 victory at No. 5. over Lia Peterson The Saints got on the board at the sixth spot as Dadoly defeated Jessica Ampel 6-2, 6-4.
 
Skidmore heads to Massachusetts on Apr. 14, taking on host Wellesley at the Wellesley Nor'easter Bowl.
