WELLESLEY, Mass. – The 20th-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team started the weekend in style, defeating host Wellesley 6-3 in the first day of the Nor'easter Bowl, held at the Wellesley Outdoor Courts Friday afternoon.
 
Skidmore improves to 8-5 overall with the victory. Wellesley, the 33rd-ranked team in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III polls, drops to 13-7.
 
The Thoroughbreds got a boost in doubles play, taking an early 2-1 lead. Wins by Michelle Fuca and partner Madie Benn at No. 1 and Alexa Goldberg with partner Jessica Ampel at No. 3 gave Skidmore the upper hand heading into singles play. 
 
Renee Karchere-Sun defeated Wellesley's Selina Peng 6-2, 7-5, at No. 5 to make the score 4-1. After the Blue picked up a victory at No. 2 to make the score 4-2, Greene clinched the victory for the Thoroughbreds at No. 6, as Greene downed Sojin Ki in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. 
 
A 6-3, 6-2 victory by Danielle Giannetti over Stojkovic made the score, 5-2. Skidmore then finished the night with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win by Ada Wiggins, the sixth-ranked singles player in the Northeast Region, over Carina Chen at No. 1.
 
Skidmore finishes play in the Nor'easter Bowl on Saturday, when the Thoroughbreds travel to face No. 18 Brandeis. Wellesley will close out its regular season with a home match against Swarthmore.
