SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Liberty League honored sophomore pitcher
Jacob Berish and senior infielder
Mat Marino on Monday as both student-athletes were named to the league's honor roll for their efforts in the previous week. It's the first weekly honor of the season for both Berish and Marino.
Berish shone in his lone start on Sunday against Bard, pitching a complete game shutout. He allowed just two hits in the effort and struck out a season-best five batters to lower his season ERA by a run to 3.09.
Marino swung a consistent bat during the Thoroughbreds' six games this week, hitting safely in five of the contests. He batted .435 (10-for-23) during the stretch, with seven runs, four RBI, one double and four stolen bases. Marino went 6-for-10, driving in three runs and scoring five more to lead Skidmore to a doubleheader sweep against Bard on Sunday. The senior is currently batting .333 on the year.
The Thoroughbreds (9-9, 4-6 Liberty League) dropped a pair of games against Clarkson on Wednesday but rallied to take three of four against Bard on Saturday and Sunday. Skidmore continues league play with a four-game set at St. Lawrence on April 14-15.
