Skidmore splits at Union; Garnet Chargers take series

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team won the first game of a doubleheader at Union on Saturday in 11 innings, 5-3, but the host Garnet Charges scored 10 runs over two innings in the nightcap to win the weekend series 2-1 and clinch its spot in next week's Liberty League Crossover Series.
  • Skidmore (18-14, 5-10 Liberty League, 4-8 LL East) kept its playoff hopes alive with the game-one win. The Thoroughbreds will make it as the four seed from the East if RPI sweeps Bard in a rescheduled Sunday doubleheader.

Game 1 – Skidmore 5, Union 3 (11 inn.)

  • Skidmore led 2-0 through the first five innings.
  • Quinn McDonald hit a bases-loaded, two-out single in the top of the second to bring in a pair to make it 2-0 for Skidmore.

  • The Garnet Chargers tied it up at two in the eighth with two outs when Caleb Miller doubled to left.
  • Jack Collins made it until two outs in the eighth. He allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits over 7.2 sparkling innings. He walked two and struck out five in the no decision.
  • Sam Dalsimer pitched three innings of relief for the win, and Palovich pitched to one hitter to escape the 11th-inning jam.
