Thoroughbreds rally late, but fall 10-8 to No. 28 Russell Sage in season finale

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull to within a run, but was unable to complete the comeback as the Thoroughbreds finished their 2026 season with a 10-8 loss at Ferrari Field on Tuesday to Russell Sage.
  • Skidmore finishes its season with an 18-15 record for the seventh full season in a row of at least 15 victories.
  • Russell Sage, ranked 28th nationally and 14th in NPI (NCAA Power Index), is 30-5.
  • The Gators scored in seven different innings with two in the first and three in the fourth.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Skidmore trimmed a five-run deficit into one when it rallied for four runs on six hits in the frame. All six hits for the Thoroughbreds were singles, including run-scoring hits from Landon Schwartzman, Grayden Harris, Jack Collins, and Eddie Galvao. The tying run was stranded at third on a called strike three on a full-count pitch.
  • Russell Sage added an insurance tally on a Darren Dengler solo homer in the ninth for the 10-8 final.
  • The Gators homered three times to Skidmore's one.
  • Evan Grimes opened the scoring with a two-out bomb in the top of the first.
  • In the second, Mac Cady tied it up when he lofted a two-run homer over the fence in left.
  • The visitors scored the next four with a single run in the third and three in the fourth.
  • Skidmore inched back with a pair in the bottom of the fourth on a Holden Caney RBI ground out and a run-scoring Adam Copeland single, but left two runners in scoring position to keep it a two-run RSC lead.
  • Skidmore brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Grimes closed it out with a ground ball in the infield to get Sage to the 30-win plateau for the first time in program history.
  • Galvao went 3-for-4 for Skidmore with two runs scored, Skidmore's only stolen base, and a walk.
  • Sage, the nation's leader in stolen bases, swiped eight bags. Catcher Collin Casey had there. Skidmore threw out two Gator base runners.
  • Cady scored three times on a 1-for-3 performance with two walks.
  • Collins and Caney both had two hits.
  • Joseph Karpierz went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and three runs for the visitors.
  • Sam Dalsimer wrapped his collegiate career on the mound for Skidmore with a clean ninth inning after the lead off man homered right before his entrance.
