SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The No. 20 Skidmore College women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories against Liberty League foes Sunday. The Thoroughbreds defeated RIT 9-0 at the Wilton YMCA, then went out to the Wenger Courts, defeating Bard 9-0.
Skidmore improves to 3-0 overall and in league action. RIT falls to 2-2 and 0-2 in conference. Bard falls to 2-6 and 0-3 in the league.
Against RIT, Skidmore conceded just one doubles point. The duos of
Michelle Fuca and
Ada Wiggins and
Alexa Goldberg and
Jessica Ampel both registered shutouts in their respective matches at first and third doubles.
In singles,
Renee Karchere-Sun (6-2, 6-1),
Michelle Fuca (6-1, 6-2),
Risa Fukushige (6-1, 6-2),
Brianna Greene (6-0, 6-0), and
Erica Meno (6-2, 6-2) were dominant in their victories. At first singles,
Ada Wiggins defeated RIT's Amelia Ying, 6-2, 6-4.
With the weather clearing up, Skidmore moved outside to the Wenger Courts for its match with Bard. Against the Raptors, Skidmore was impressive, yielding two points throughout the afternoon. The teams of Wiggins and Karchere-Sun, as well as Fukushige and Ampel both shutout their Bard foes. In singles, Karchere-Sun, Fukushige,
Jessica Tsai, Ampel, and
Jackie Ahn all registered shutouts.
Skidmore will next head to Maine, taking on some of the region's best talent at the Bowdoin Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
