WALTHAM, Mass.—The 19
th ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team opened play in the Wellesley Nor'Easter Bowl with a 5-4 win over #24 Brandeis.
The Thoroughbreds (11-2) are seeded fourth in the eight team event and will face top seed and #4 Amherst College in a semifinal match on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wellesley College.
Skidmore swept the doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles. The number one team of
Lee Ford and Madeline Benn won 8-3 over Carley Cooke and Simone Vandroff. The number three team of
Melissa Hirsch and
Yumi Karlshoej won 9-7.
Lee Ford and Benn each won three-set singles matches to clinch 5-4 win. Ford beat Allyson Bernstein 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at number two singles and Benn defeated Roberta Bergstein 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
