#20 Skidmore remains unbeaten with 7-2 win over #26 Vassar

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's tennis team became the clear favorite to win the Liberty League title with a 7-2 win over Vassar College, Saturday at the Wilton YMCA.
 
The Thoroughbreds (5-0) swept the Brewers (1-1) in doubles and then claimed the top three singles matches.
 
Lee Ford beat Samantha Schapiro at number one singles 6-1, 6-2 and combined with Madie Benn to win at number one doubles over Schapiro and Shayna Becker 8-4.  The number two doubles team of Rachel Plevinsky and Alex Smith won the day's closest match, 9-8 (7-2) over Lauren Stauffer and Kelsey Van Noy.
 
Skidmore travels to William Smith on March 2.

1. Lee Ford/Madie Benn defeated Samantha Schapiro/Shayna Becker 8-4
2. Rachel Plevinsky/Alex Smith defeated Lauren Stauffer/Kelsey Van Noy 9-8 (7-2)
3. Zoe Valella/Melissa Hirsch defeated Winnie Yeates/Lindsay Kantor 9-7

Singles
1. Lee Ford defeated Samantha Schapiro 6-1, 6-2
2. Melissa Hirsch defeated Winnie Yeates 6-0, 7-6 (7-5)
3. Madie Benn defeated Lindsay Kantor 6-0, 6-0
4. Robyn Baird lost to Lauren Stauffer 6-3, 6-3
5. Caroline Hobbs lost to Shayna Becker 6-3, 6-2
6. Monique Carlson defeated Kelsey Van Noy 6-4, 6-1
