Dani DeGregory tied a program-high with 10 points, propelling the 13th-ranked Skidmore College field hockey team to a 10-0 league win over Union, Friday evening at Wagner Park.
The Thoroughbreds, who improved to 8-1 at home this season, move to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League, while Union goes to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Melanie Webb gave Skidmore the only lead it would need 1:39 into the game, slotting home a rebound from close range after DeGregory's initial shot from a penalty corner was blocked. The Dutchwomen responded quickly, but Skidmore goalkeeper
Amy Beck denied Allison Troy's redirection to keep the Thoroughbreds in front.
DeGregory rattled off a natural hat trick in the span of 3:27 to put Skidmore ahead 4-0. She netted her first goal of the game in the fourth minute, dribbling past her defender and sliding a shot past a charging Union goalkeeper. DeGregory added her second at 5:41, tipping in a long feed from
Krista Lamoreaux and she completed the hat trick at 7:13, taking a cross from Webb and blasting a shot into the bottom right corner.
Webb notched her second of the game in the 10th minute, deflecting DeGregory's perfectly placed pass into the back of the cage. Freshman forward
Kayla Rose gave the Thoroughbreds a 6-0 lead at the half with her second goal of the season.
Skidmore got a quick start in the second half, as DeGregory picked out
Sam Skott alone in front of an open goal 2:15 into the frame.
Sofia San Marco extended the Thoroughbreds lead in the 46th minute, tallying her second goal of the season and
Sam Revera converted a penalty stroke in the 51st minute. DeGregory potted her fourth of the contest in the 56th minute, deflecting a blast from
Jenn Hanks inside the right post.
Beck made four saves in 55:12, while freshman
Zoe McGuire turned away three shots in the final 14:48. Laura Aptowitz got the start in goal for Union, making four saves in first 22:32, while Danika Hornick stopped six shots in 47:28 of play. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Dutchwomen 27-8 and had a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.
