#4 Middlebury edges #9 Skidmore, 3-2

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- In a battle of top-10 field hockey teams, Middlebury College came from behind to beat Skidmore College, 3-2 in a non-league contest played Wednesday afternoon at Wagner Park.
 
Skidmore, ranked ninth, falls to 7-3. The loss snaps a 21-game home win streak for the Thoroughbreds that dated back to a 2012 2-1 loss to the Panthers.  Middlebury, ranked fourth, improves to 7-1.
 
After a scoreless first 30 minutes, Skidmore got on the board when Sam Skott lifted a shot past Panther goalie Emily Knapp from along the end line, just outside the cage for her 15th goal of the season at 31:44.
 
Dani DeGregory gave the Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead when deflected a long pass from Pauline Searles that caught the top of the cage for her Division III leading 19th goal of the season at 41:44.
 
Middlebury got one back when Pam Schulman placed a shot past charging Skidmore goalie Amy Beck at 49:27. Bridget Instrum assisted.
 
Catherine Fowler tied it off a deflection from Instrum at 63:40. Instrum then set-up the game-winner when Hollis Perticone converted her pass in front at 67:14 for the 3-2 final.  Both goals started off penalty corners.
 
Middlebury had a 19-9 shot advantage and 9-7 edge in corners.
 
Beck tied her career-high with 10 saves.  Knapp had two saves for the Panthers.
 
Skidmore is at Nazareth on Oct. 5 for a 2 p.m. game.
