SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore field hockey team rallied to its second straight come-from-behind victory in a 4-2 win against SUNY Oneonta Wednesday at Wagner Park.
The 15th-ranked Thoroughbreds improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Red Dragons go to 4-1.
Kelly Blackhurst became the 26th player in Division III to reach 200 career points, netting her 79th career goal. Blackhurst is two points from tying Skidmore's career record set by
Christine Kemp '11.
Freshman
Krista Lamoreaux registered her first career points with one goal and two assists,
Alex Hagney chipped in with three points, tallying her first goal of the season and adding two assists, and
Dani DeGregory completed the scoring for Skidmore.
DeGregory opened the scoring for the Thoroughbreds in the sixth minute, dribbling passed three Oneonta defenders and tucking in a backhand. The Red Dragons responded 90 seconds later when Kelcy Forbragd scored on a rebound, and Erin Butler put Oneonta ahead in the 30th minute, capitalizing on scramble in front of goal.
Sam Revera's tackle kept the Skidmore deficit at one going into halftime as she chased down a Red Dragons forward who had a clear path to goal and broke up the play.
The Thoroughbreds leveled the game in the 40th minute as Lamoreaux fed Blackhurst for a one-timer from just inside the circle. Skidmore pushed ahead in the 44th minute as DeGregory's initial shot from a penalty corner was stopped, but Hagney found Lamoreaux alone in front for the game-winning goal. Lamoreaux returned the favor in the 60th minute, connecting with Hagney, who notched Thoroughbreds fourth goal.
Oneonta almost cut the lead in half, but
Haley McDougall made a diving save on a shot from the right side of the circle that was heading inside the far post. McDougall made six saves, earning her third win of the season.
"Blackhurst and DeGregory paced the Thoroughbreds with a goal a piece, but contributions from freshman Krista Lamoreaux and sophomore Alex Hagney made the difference on offense," said Skidmore coach Beth Hallenbeck. "Goalie McDougall and defensive anchors Hanks and Weis were aided by freshman Becca Halter and junior Sam Revera, who were standouts on the defensive end and in the midfield today."
Skidmore returns to action 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 as it travels to Wheaton College.
