SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -
The 16th ranked Skidmore women's tennis team opens its spring schedule in Greencastle, Ind., Mar.1-3 when it competes at the ITA Indoor National Championships for the first time in
program history.

The tournament is among the most prestigious in the country, boasting eight of the nation's top-ranked teams. Skidmore will face fifth ranked Carnegie Melon Mar. 1 at 10a.m. in opening round play.

The Thoroughbreds, winners of the last two Liberty League crowns are returning eight players with championship experience. Coach Curt Speerschneider also expects his two freshmen to have an impact as the season progresses.
Speerschneider's goals for the spring season were simple stating that he expects his club to "break into the top 10 to 15" by playing at the level it's capable of. He intimated that with the depth and leadership on the roster, this season's team is aiming to better last season's Sweet 16 appearance.

When asked what his biggest challenge is, Coach Speerschneider stated that it's all about attitude. "Realizing that we are at that level" and not being intimidated by a nationally ranked program will be crucial. The two-time Liberty League Coach of the Year went on to say that his team can't become complacent based on last season's performance. Now more than ever, he feels his team "needs to work harder than before to improve."

Returning for the Thoroughbreds are Nataly Mendoza who ranks 12th individually in the Northeast regional rankings, and Lee Ford who ranks 23rd. As a team, Mendoza and Ford rank 13th in the region in doubles competition.

Skidmore kicks off the home portion of its schedule Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts Williams College.
