Skidmore dominates Stevens on senior day

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College field hockey team completed its regular season with a 9-4 rout of Stevens Tech, Saturday at Wagner Park.

Kelly Blackhurst, Sam Skott and Dani DeGregory all registered multi-point games for the Thoroughbreds. Blackhurst recorded season-highs with four goals and nine points, Skott added two goals and two assists for a season-high six points and DeGregory chipped in with two goals.

Blackhurst opened the scoring in the 8th minute, receiving a long-range pass from Skott and slotting in a backhand.

Stevens responded through Marguerite Chavez in the 10th minute as she took a feed from Rachel Chavez and put home a shot from close-range.

Skott restored the Skidmore lead 14 seconds later, beating the goalkeeper on the near post, and DeGregory gave the Thoroughbreds a 3-1 lead in the 21st minute, dribbling past her defender and banking a shot in off the far post.

Grace Ridge buried her shot after a scramble in front of the Skidmore goal to bring the Ducks back within one in the 22nd minute, but again the Thoroughbreds were able to regain control with a goal from Krista Lamoreaux at 28:03.

Stevens battled back to start the second half, opening the scoring at 39:48, as Grace Ridge fed Rachel Chavez, who capitalized on a shot from close range.

Skott and Blackhurst were both benefactors of rebound goals in the 41st and 47th minute respectively, giving the Thoroughbreds the last lead they would need.

Erin Silvestri produced the Ducks final goal of the game in the 48th minute with a blast from the top of the circle.

Skidmore closed the scoring with three unanswered goals. Blackhurst completed her hat-trick in the 57th minute, deflecting in Jenn Hanks's shot from the top of the circle, and netted her fourth at 60:17 after being sprung on a breakaway by a perfectly weighted pass from Skott. DeGregory tallied at 60:42 to round out the scoring.

The Thoroughbreds outshot the Ducks 32-11 and held a 11-4 advantage in penalty corners. Haley McDougall made four saves in goal for Skidmore for her 15th win of the season, while Stevens Tech goalkeeper Emily Stukenborg had a career-high 13 saves, including eight in the first half, in the loss.
