Women's tennis travels to #1 Williams

Williamstown, Mass. - #17 Skidmore suffered a 9-0 loss to top-ranked Williams in Sunday's women's tennis matchup.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 9-3, while the Ephs improve to 15-1.

In doubles action, the #3 team of Alex Smith and Robyn Baird battled before dropping an 8-6 decision.  In #1 doubles, Nataly Mendoza and Lee Ford fell 8-4 while the #2 team of Melissa Hirsch and Yumi Karlshoej suffered an 8-5 defeat.

Hirsch fell 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles, while Mendoza suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss at number two singles and Ford fell 6-1, 6-3 at number three singles.

"I thought we hung with them pretty good in doubles even though we gave them a lot of free points off of double faults and missed returns" said coach Curt Speerschneider.  "That's something we'll definitely work on before next weekend.  It's tough to let the doubles slip through our fingers and then try to come back in singles being down 0-3 against the perennial #1 team in the country. This match gave us a good view of what we need to focus on the last couple of weeks and into the postseason."

Skidmore hosts #7 Middlebury this Saturday at 1 p.m.
