Rochester, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team improved to 7-1with Sunday's 6-3 win at Rochester.
The Thoroughbreds opened by taking two of three doubles matches, before clinching with four singles victories.
Nataly Mendoza and
Lee Ford were doubles winners for Skidmore. The All-American duo won 8-2 at number one doubles before Mendoza won 6-3, 6-0 at number three singles and Ford clinched the win with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) victory at number four singles.
Melissa Hirsch and
Yumi Karlshoej picked up the other doubles win with an 8-4 victory at number three doubles. In singles action,
Alex Smith won 6-2, 6-2 at number five singles and
Robyn Baird earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at number six singles.
"These were very good matches for us to win” coach
Curt Speerschneider said. “We were faced with a lot of different situations and were up against the wall many times. It was good to see the team compete and persevere in those pressure situations. They went out and played to win, and did."
