Women's tennis blanks William Smith, 9-0

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's tennis team opened its spring campaign with a dominating 9-0 win over Liberty League foe William Smith.

In singles action, Melissa Hirsch picked up a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 win at number one, while senior Tory Engros was a 6-1, 7-5 winner at number two singles and Nataly Mendoza cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in number three singles action. In number four singles, Lee Ford was a 6-0, 6-1 winner as Alex Smith won 6-0, 6-0 at number five and Robyn Baird earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at number six singles.

Mendoza and Ford teamed up for an 8-6 win at number one doubles. Engros and Hirsch were 9-8 (7-3) winners at number two doubles and Smith and Baird rounded out doubles action with an 8-6 win.

The Thoroughbreds return to action tomorrow afternoon at Ithaca.
