Women's tennis takes on Middlebury in NCAA Second Round

AMHERST, MA – The Middlebury College women's tennis team advanced to the regional finals of the NCAA Division III Championship with a 5-0 win over Skidmore College Saturday afternoon at Amherst. The Panthers will take on the host school Sunday with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals on the line.

Middlebury started strong in doubles play, winning all three matches by a score of 8-3. Anna Burke gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Molly Nolan at the #5 singles position. The match was sealed moments later, when Sally Wilkey topped Tory Engros 6-4, 6-0 at #4 to send the Panthers to the regional final.

Ranked 10th in Division III and fourth in the Northeast, Middlebury improved to 10-8 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.

Ranked 29th in Division III, Skidmore ends its season as champions of the Liberty League for the first time since 2000. The Thoroughbreds move to 12-14 all-time in NCAA Tournament competition, having won the 1998 national title.
