Women's tennis wins NCAA opener, 5-0

Amherst, Mass. - The Skidmore College women's tennis team cruised to a 5-0 NCAA first round victory over Castleton, Friday afternoon at Amherst College.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 11-8, while the Spartans end their season with a 13-2 record.

Skidmore was dominant at doubles, winning all three matches 8-0.

Nataly Mendoza won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles and Molly Nolan also won 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles.  Rachel Loeb, Melissa Hitsch, Robyn Baird and Sophia Bryan-Ajania were all leading their matches before the Thoroughbreds clinched the victory.

Skidmore takes on Middlebury on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Results

Doubles:
1.  Loeb / Mendoza defeated Bucci / Podnecky 8-0
2. Nolan / Hirsch defeated Crehan / Racine 8-0
3. Bryan-Ajania defeated Francy / McGinn 8-0

Singles:
1.  Loeb was leading Podnecky 6-1 , 1-1
2.  Hirsch was leading Bucci 6-0, 4-0
3.  Mendoza defeated Francy 6-0, 6-0
4.  Bryan-Ajania was leading Racine 6-1, 1-0
5.  Nolan defeated Crehan 6-0, 6-0
6.  Baird was leading McGinn 6-0, 2-0

Final score: Skidmore 5, Castleton 0
