Skidmore ice hockey team gives back

The Skidmore College ice hockey team took advantage of winter break to give back to the community.

The Thoroughbreds returned to campus on December 27th to prepare for the Plattsburgh tournament and a return to ECAC East/NESCAC league play.  The Winter Break is a quiet time on campus when classes are not in session.

The hockey team always looks for ways to become involved in the community. This year the team continued to be involved as coaches with the Learn to Skate Program run by Saratoga Youth Ice Hockey. The team also continued to work with Saratoga High School and its Sponsor a Scholar Program.

This January saw the team expand its involvement in the community by supporting a tutoring/mentoring program at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, which will continue even as classes resume.

Skidmore hockey was also fortunate to be able to provide support to one of the local elementary schools, Dorothy Nolan. Team members were involved in the school as teacher's assistants, guest readers, and mentors.

At some point during the Winter Break, each of the 31 members of the hockey team were active in some type of community involvement. The community service outreach is coordinated by Skidmore College senior and Saratoga Springs native, Timothy Daley.
