SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team scored three goals in the second period to gain a 4-1 lead and went on to defeat visiting Plattsburgh State, 4-3, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Quarterfinal game on Wednesday evening.
- Skidmore (15-9-2), the three seed, will travel to second-seeded and nationally 14th-ranked Oswego State on Saturday for the semifinals.
- Skidmore's win streak is now eight.
- Four different players scored, and Ryan Stratton had three assists, to supply the offense for the Thoroughbreds, who have advanced to five straight conference semis.
- It was Skidmore's first SUNYAC tournament victory in its first try.
- Tyler Chenevert, Coleman Jenkins, Shane Baker, and Cooper Rice scored the goals for Skidmore.
- Plattsburgh finishes at 13-13. Skidmore won all three against the Cardinals this season.
- Chenevert made it 1-0 with 3:01 left in the first period when Christian Day kicked over a rebound over to a wide open Chenevert for the finish. Bryson Russell also assisted with the initial shot.
- Jenkins made it 2-0 on a nice move to the backhand after picking up his own rebound 3:37 into period two. Stratton and Baker assisted on the play through the neutral zone.
- Brannon Butler cut the deficit in half for the Cardinals 1:05 later.
- Baker came back and buried a wrist shot on the glove side to regain Skidmore's two-goal lead just over three minutes later. Stratton made the pass on the 2-on-2 play, and Jenkins made the breakout pass for the second helper.
- Then, Rice completed the busy middle period with a goal on a tip on the power play with 4:43 left. Stratton shot it for his third primary assist of the night. Dylan Shane also assisted.
- Plattsburgh threatened in the third period and pulled to within two on a Spencer Bellina tally at 12:03.
- Jake Sacratini completed the scoring with a goal with 0.2 seconds left that proved to be superfluous on a swat out of the air.

- Tommy Aitken earned his ninth win of the campaign with 35 saves for Skidmore.
