Two road wins for women's tennis

Geneva, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team reached 11 wins on the season as they posted a pair of wins over William Smith and Ithaca Sunday at the Bristol Field House.

Ranked 27^th nationally, the Thoroughbreds began the day with a 7-2 decision over William Smith. Skidmore swept the doubles column against the Herons with the teams of Stephanie Abrams/Allie Burns and Laura Attley/Caroline Sherman winning at number two and three doubles with identical 8-6 decisions.

Danika Robison earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at the top single spot over William Smith's Chelsea Rauck and was victorious with classmate Rachel Loeb in the top doubles match, recording a 9-7 win over Rauck and Joanie Hilton.

Robison and Loeb each won at number one and two singles in the second match to lead the Thoroughbreds to their sixth shutout of the season, a 9-0 mark over Ithaca College.

Skidmore took a 3-0 advantage into singles play as they went on to win all six singles bouts in straight sets.

“This was a very solid week of tennis,” said head coach Curt Speerschneider. “We had four matches in five days against very quality opponents. It was a real challenge finishing the week with a double header on the road, and the team rose to the occasion and competed very well. I give them a lot of credit for toughening up and getting through the grind, mentally and physically. We're where we need to be heading into the final couple weeks of the regular season.”

The Thoroughbreds (11-3) will play at Vassar on April 11 before returning to Saratoga on April 12 to host Connecticut College.
