Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team rounded out its regular season play with wins over MIT and Brandeis University on Saturday and Sunday to finish with a 14-4 record heading into the Liberty League Championships.
The Thoroughbreds, ranked 26th nationally, have won six of their last seven matches.
Skidmore defeated MIT 8-1 and posted a 6-3 victory over Brandeis.
Sophomore Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village Colo.) went 4-0 over the weekend with two wins at number two singles and two wins at number one doubles. She defeated MIT's Anastasia Vishnevetski 6-1, 6-4, and Gabrielle Helfgott of Brandeis, 6-1, 6-1, while combining with Danika Robison (South Burlington, Vt.) for two 8-5 wins.
"This weekend was a good way to finish our regular season,” said head coach Curt Speerschneider. “Both MIT and Brandeis are very solid teams. We definitely used a lot of what we've been working on to get these wins, which I was most happy about. Doubles was a huge momentum builder. It was big getting all three doubles points against both of those teams. We'll take these into the post season. This is the time of year that the excitement happens. We're ready.”
