Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 decision to The College of New Jersey Sunday morning at the Saratoga Springs-Wilton YMCA.
Sophomore
Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village, CO) recorded a win at number two doubles for the Thoroughbreds with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over TCNJ's Stefanie Haar.
Freshman
Allie Burns (Mequon, WI) and junior
Dani Fancher (St. Louis, MO) also earned wins for Skidmore at number three and four singles, with Burns also victorious in number three doubles along with
Stephanie Abrams (Avon, CT).
Sophomore
Danika Robison (South Burlington, VT) put up a tough fight in her match at number one singles, but came up slightly short, falling to TCNJ's Jackie Shtemberg 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
"This was a very highly competitve match between two very even teams," said head coach Curt Speerschneider. "It was a back and fourth battle for five hours. They just played a little bit better in the end. Our season is still very young, so we'll learn from it and move on. We've got a handful of other matches coming up that will be just as competitive."
