Castleton VT - The Castleton State College field hockey team dropped a 6-1 non-conference match up to visiting Skidmore College Wednesday evening at Spartans Stadium. With the loss, Castleton falls to 4-8 overall. Skidmore, ranked 12th in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Poll, improves to 9-3 on the season.

Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, NY) scored a pair of goals and had one assist to lead the Skidmore attack. Brittany O'Brien (Ridgefield, CT) scored two goals and Carolyne McManama (Medfield, MA) added two assists in the lopsided win.

Kemp broke a scoreless tie 14:09 into the contest, converting Skidmore's eighth penalty corner of the first half into her 11th goal of the season. Ceilidh MacNeil (Framingham, MA) made it 2-0 on her third goal of the season, punching home an assist from Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, NY). Kemp tallied her second of the game 10 minutes later, potting McManama's first helper of the contest. Castleton goalie Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) turned away a pair of Alison Frey (Williston, VT) attempts, only to have McManama push the rebound to a waiting Kemp who converted. O'Brien scored 40 seconds later to give Skidmore a 4-0 cushion at intermission.

O'Brien made it 5-0 8:47 into the second half, off another assist from a McManama penalty corner. McManama sent in the corner to O'Brien at the top of the circle, and the junior forward rocketed it past goalie Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, VT). Marie Amaral (Barre, VT) tallied Castleton's lone goal on the evening, converting a rebound off a Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT) shot. Katie Potter (Rumson, NJ) rounded out the Thoroughbred scoring, picking up her third goal of the season after Castleton failed to clear the ball during a flurry in front of the net.

Dusha stopped eight shots in her 35 minutes of action, before giving way to Whittemore who made seven saves. Liz Cantinella (Sudbury, MA) started in goal for the Thoroughbreds and stopped the only shot that came her way in 57 minutes. Margaux Hoagland (Cazenovia, NY) made two saves in 13 minutes of relief.
