Colby Paul scored twice in the fourth quarter to cap a balanced attack as the Skidmore College field hockey team defeated Thomas College 6-2 Saturday afternoon at Wagner Park. Five Thoroughbreds scored as Skidmore snapped a three-game skid and improved to 2-3.
- Molly Van Vranken opened the scoring at 5:26 on a breakaway for her third goal of the season.
- Catie O'Rourke doubled the advantage exactly two minutes later with her third of the year before Emma Houff converted a penalty stroke with 35 seconds left in the opening quarter to make it 3-0.
- Ella Costa stretched the lead to 4-0 at 22:22, tipping in a penalty-corner chance set up by Madeleine Tucker. The assist was Tucker's first collegiate point.
- Thomas (2-4) got on the board at 25:57 on an unassisted goal from Celia Stinson and pulled within 4-2 when Samantha Thebarge converted a Maci Freeman penalty corner at 37:48.
- Alex Mandzij recorded a defensive save for the Thoroughbreds in the third quarter, stopping an Avery LaBua attempt at 37:30.
- Paul put the game away with her first two goals of the season. She scored unassisted at 50:59 before finishing off a penalty corner from Gianna DiGioacchino at 52:44, a span of 1:45.
- Paul's four-point afternoon gives her 48 career points on 22 goals and four assists, moving her into a tie for 34th on Skidmore's career scoring list.
- Costa leads Skidmore with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Costa, Van Vranken, Erin Ohlenbusch and O'Rourke are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece.
- Skidmore finished with a 28-8 advantage in shots, a 19-5 margin in shots on goal and a 14-7 edge in penalty corners. Thomas goalkeepers Eliya Drummond and Mackenzie Toner combined for 13 saves.
- Nicole Sylvestri made two saves while playing the opening 30 minutes in goal for Skidmore. Lily Dreyfuss handled the second half.
