SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior
Colby Paul scored twice and reached 50 career points Tuesday as the Skidmore College field hockey team rolled past Vermont State University Castleton, 8-1, at Wagner Park. The Thoroughbreds improved to 3-3 with their second consecutive victory.
Ella Costa also scored twice in the win, while
Gianna DiGioacchino had a goal and two assists.
- Margaret Heim opened the scoring at 4:53 with the first goal of her career. Catie O'Rourke assisted on Heim's cross-goal finish.
- Castleton answered at 6:01, but Ella Costa restored the Skidmore lead just 2:40 later. Gianna DiGioacchino assisted Costa's goal at 8:41 to make it 2-1.
- Paul converted a penalty stroke at 28:47 for her third goal of the season. The goal gave Paul 50 career points. She's the 34th in program history to reach the milestone.
- Paul struck again at 34:50, finishing a rebound off an assist from DiGioacchino to extend the lead to 4-1. Paul finished the afternoon with two goals and now has 52 career points.
- The Thoroughbreds broke the game open with four goals in the fourth quarter. DiGioacchino scored just 48 seconds into the period off a Costa assist before Erin Ohlenbusch set up Molly Van Vranken 31 seconds later.
- Rachel Longbrake scored the first goal of her career at 49:54, taking a feed from Ohlenbusch to make it 7-1.
- Costa capped the scoring at 55:36 with her second goal of the contest. Ohlenbusch added two assists.
- Skidmore outshot Castleton 32-5, including a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal, and held a 14-5 edge in penalty corners. The eight goals and 32 shots matched season highs.
- Nicole Sylvestri, Lily Dreyfuss and Allison Morgan split time in goal for Skidmore. Morgan made the Thoroughbreds' lone save.
