Houff scores twice for Thoroughbreds in 4-3 setback at Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Emma Houff scored twice and added an assist, but the Skidmore College field hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision at Hartwick on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The Thoroughbreds move to 4-4, while Hartwick improves to 5-3.
  • Skidmore struck first at 7:50 when Colby Paul scored off a feed from Houff. Paul has scored in four consecutive games.
  • Hartwick answered at 11:36 on a goal from Hope Angioletti, sending the game to the second quarter tied at one.
  • Neither side scored in the second quarter. Nicole Sylvestri made three saves in the period to keep the game even through halftime.
  • Houff put the Thoroughbreds back in front, 2-1, by converting a penalty stroke at 35:49.
  • Hartwick responded with two goals over the final 5:29 of the third quarter. Katelyn Klotz tied it at 39:31 before Mary McCarvill scored at 43:53 to give the Hawks their first lead.
  • Skidmore needed just 40 seconds of the fourth quarter to pull even. Houff scored her second of the afternoon off an assist from Ella Costa for a 3-3 tie.
  • Makayla Bales scored the eventual game winner for Hartwick at 51:15. Catie O'Rourke put Skidmore's final shot on goal at 52:13, but Hartwick goalkeeper Ava Reynolds made the save.
  • Sylvestri finished with 12 saves, including six in the fourth quarter. Reynolds stopped 13 shots for Hartwick.
  • The teams were nearly even in shots, with Hartwick holding a 22-21 edge. Both sides put 16 shots on goal. Hartwick, however, finished with a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Paul's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season. Costa's assist was her team-best seventh, while Houff's five-point performance lifted her to four goals, two assists and 10 points.
 
UP NEXT
Skidmore returns home Friday, Oct. 2 to host Union at 4 p.m. at Wagner Park as part of Homecoming Weekend. The Thoroughbreds will then travel to nationally 20th-ranked Ithaca on Sunday.
