Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Junior
Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) netted her fourth and fifth goals of the season to lift the Skidmore College field hockey team past Ithaca College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
Skidmore, coming off of an exciting 2-1 win over Oneonta less than 24 hours before, improves its record to 3-2, while the Bombers fall to 2-2.
The Thoroughbreds held a healthy 19-4 shot advantage in the contest and a 13-5 cushion in penalty corners.
The first goal of the game came off of a penalty corner, when junior
Casey Tang (Columbia, Md.) sent a pass from the top of the circle and found Britt wide open on the right side of the goal at 13:22 for a 1-0 Skidmore lead.
Carolyne McManama (Medfield, Mass.) scored on off another penalty corner, when she put in a shot through a crowd in front of the net with assists from
Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) and
Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) that extended the lead to two at 45:35.
Britt would make it 3-0 52 seconds later when she deflected a pass from
Annie Rosencrans into the net for her team leading fifth goal.
Bomber goalie Chelsea Welsh (Scotia, N.Y.) picked up 11 saves in the defeat. Skidmore used the combination of sophomores
Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) and
Margaux Hoagland (Cazenovia, N.Y.) for the three-save shut out.
The Thoroughbreds will host Union College to begin Liberty League play on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
