BRUNSWICK, Maine—The Skidmore College women's tennis team had a successful weekend at the Bowdoin Invitational.
Risa Fukushige won the A Flight Singles title. She beat Bowdoin's Julia Marks in the final 6-4, 6-4. She came back to advance to the doubles final with
Chanhtel Thongphok before losing to Bowdoin's top team 8-4.
The doubles team of
Jessica Ampel and
Lily Feldman dropped two "super close" tie breakers to Bowdoin's top two to teams to finish fourth.
"We competed very well at the Bowdoin Invite, which was really good to see after a long and pretty grueling fall schedule." Said coach
Curt Speerschneider. "We made some significant steps forward with our doubles, which was very good to see.
"At this point in the season it's all about how we're competing and if we're getting opportunities to win matches against tough opponents, win or lose. In that aspect, we're in a very good spot knowing where we need to be better when the matches are a bit more meaningful in the spring.
"We definitely look forward to getting back to it in February. Risa and Chanhtel will be finishing out our fall down in Georgia at the ITA Cup next week."
