Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team finished the Liberty League season unbeaten for the fourth season in a row, after defeating Hobart by a 7-2 score at the HWS Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore (11-4, 8-0 Liberty League), ranked 26
th in the ITA Division III national rankings, has won its 38
th straight league match and will officially earn a bye into the Liberty League semifinals, held at the Reis Tennis Courts in Ithaca, N.Y. on May 5. Hobart (10-6, 4-2), ranked 38
th, is in third place with two league matches to go after snapping a five-match win streak.
Skidmore took two of three matches in doubles to stake the early lead.
Steven Koulouris and
JT Wynne fought to a 9-7 victory at No. 1 against Alan Dubrosky and Jonas Salita, while
Lucas Pickering and
Jason Keye battled in an 9-8 (4) triumph at No. 3.
In singles, Koulouris defeated Salita by matching 6-4, 6-4 scores at No. 1, while
Ted Berkowitz dominated his opponent at No. 5, winning by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Jack McClaren fought through the first set, but prevailed, eventually cruising in the second set of a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 over Walker Anderson. Wynne, playing at No. 2, would win the first set and drop the second, but dominated in the third set of a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 victory against Salita. Pickering dropped the first set of his match at No. 6, but rallied to defeat David Reinharz 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 to complete the sweep.
Skidmore returns home tomorrow afternoon, hosting No. 15 Tufts outdoors at the Wenger Tennis Courts in the regular season finale at noon.
