SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team opened the 2017-18 season with a strong performance, defeating Bard 7-2 at the Skidmore Tennis Courts in Liberty League action Sunday afternoon.
 
Skidmore, the defending Liberty League champions, improved to 1-0 overall and in league play. Bard drops to 0-1 (0-1).
 
Skidmore dominated for most of the match, yielding just two points in doubles action. Steven Koulouris and JT Wynne, picked up shutout victories in their first doubles matches.
 
In singles, Jack McClaren and Jason Keye picked up where they left off from last season, shutting out their opponents in the third and fourth spot. Yuqi Wang and Kevin Ha earned his first collegiate victory, winning at fifth singles. At first singles, Ted Berkowitz withstood an early challenge from Bard's Satchel Fisher, trailing 5-2 in the first set. Berkowitz rallied, taking the first set 7-5, then cruising to a 6-1 advantage in the second set for the win.
 
The Thoroughbreds next hit the road to take on some of the nation's best talent at the Middlebury Invite on Sept. 23-24.
