MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team dominated in doubles play, advancing to the NCAA Division III Regional Finals with a highly contested 5-0 victory over The College of New Jersey Friday morning at the Proctor Tennis Courts.
 
Skidmore, ranked 25th nationally, improves to 12-6 and will face host Middlebury on Saturday at 10 a.m., with a spot in the NCAA Championship Semifinals at stake. TCNJ, ranked 34th in the nation, finishes the season with a 15-4 record.
 
Skidmore raced out to a 3-0 lead in the second round matchup, sweeping the Lions in doubles play. The regionally-ranked duo of Kai Yuen Leung and John Wynne defeated TCNJ's Mitchel Sanders and Matt Puig 8-2 at No. 1. Lucas Pickering and Nils Akesson also won 8-2, defeating Tim Gavornik and Chris D'Agostino at No. 3. The second doubles match was slightly closer, as Steven Koulouris and Travis Leaf defeated Jack August and Mike Stanley 8-3.
 
Singles play was highly contested between the two teams as the Lions attempted to make a comeback. Sanders, August, and Gavornik took early leads at Nos. 1, 2, and 5, respectively, but Skidmore held off TCNJ with a pair of straight set victories. Wynne held off D'Agostino, at No. 4, overcoming a second set deficit to earn a 6-2, 6-4 victory to give Skidmore its fourth point, and Ted Berkowitz clinched the match with a straight set, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Stanley at No. 6. Pickering held a lead in his second set at No. 3 when the match was called, and Leung fought back to grab a lead in the third set of his match at No. 1.
