SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team makes its annual North Country trip when it heads to Potsdam for a Saturday contest at Clarkson, in a 12 p.m. start.
The Thoroughbreds (6-7, 2-3 Liberty League) are currently fighting for a postseason berth with a 2-3 mark in league play. The Thoroughbreds are a half game behind fourth-place Vassar and are tied with Clarkson and Union in the league standings.
Earlier this week, Skidmore nearly completed a late comeback, but fell to No. 9 Wesleyan on the road.
Brendan Halloran had a solid game, with six points on a pair of goals and four assists, while
Cody Legeza and Eric Megina each added a pair of goals.
Will Lukas leads the team and is among the league leaders with 35 points on 12 goals and 23 assists. Legeza leads the team with 24 goals and is third with 25 points coming off the bench. Halloran has 21 goals and 31 points.
Chris Baughan has continued his solid season in goal. The junior is third in save percentage (.575) and saves per game (11.85) to go along with the 9.65 goals against average. Skidmore is second in the league in penalty-killing percentage (.341) and is third with just 2:34 penalty minutes per game.
Clarkson (7-5, 2-3 Liberty League), like Skidmore, is fighting for the final playoff spots. Last time out, the Golden Knights fell to No. 6 Cortland by an 11-9 score.
The Golden Knights lead the league with three man-down goals, and they turn the ball over the least (171). Ryan DaRin leads Clarkson with 38 points on 32 goals and six assists, and is second in the league with 2.67 goals per game. Ryan St. Croix is the team's other 20-goal scorer, with 22 to go with seven assists. Conor Bartlett leads the team with 18 assists and has 31 points. In goal, Nick Strandholm has started in all 12 contests and is among the league leaders in save percentage (.566) and goals against average (8.59).
Last season, Clarkson defeated the Thoroughbreds 13-8 in Saratoga Springs on April 23. The Golden Knights have won four of the last five contests between the two squads.
