SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team will try to bounce back in Liberty League play with a pair of road contests this week. The Thoroughbreds will take on Union in Schenectady on Wednesday at 4 p.m., then head to Troy on Saturday to take on RPI at 1 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds (6-4, 2-1 Liberty League) are currently tied for second place in the league standings after dropping its first league contest of the season against then-No. 7 RIT last Saturday, snapping a five-game win streak. Skidmore will hit the road to close out the regular season with four of the next five games outside of Saratoga Springs.
Brendan Halloran and
Cody Legeza share the team lead with 18 goals apiece.
Will Lukas has continued his tremendous rookie year, leading all Thoroughbreds with 32 points on 11 goals and 21 assists.
Jack Curry (12-7-5) and
Jack Metzler (11-4-7) round out the double-digit scoring.
On defense,
Alex Towey and
Chris Sibilia share the lead with 14 caused turnovers, while
Ryan Warnock has collected 51 ground balls this season. Warnock has also won 65-of-147 faceoffs this year.
Chris Baughan is still among the league leaders in goal. The junior goalie is second with a .609 save percentage and third in saves per game (11.70) and goals against average (8.41).
Union comes into the weekend with a 5-4 record overall and a 1-2 mark in league play. In their last game, the Dutchmen fell to RPI by a 12-6 score on Saturday.
Peter Richardson leads the Dutchmen with 22 points on 13 goals and nine assists. Kerry Lyne is the leading goal scorer with 16 goals to his credit, while Jordan Cooper leads the team with 13 assists. Alex Newhouse has won a solid 63.2 percent (79-for-125) of his face-offs in the midfield, picking up a team-leading 44 ground balls. In goal, Sam Bebout has started in all nine contests, with a 10.54 goals against average and a .564 save percentage.
Last season, Union defeated Skidmore by a 13-6 score at Wachenheim Field on April 13. The Dutchmen have won the last five meetings.
RPI comes into the week with a 7-3 record overall and a 2-2 mark in the conference. The Engineers, receiving votes in the latest USILA/Nike Division III Coaches Poll, will host Babson on Wednesday prior to facing the Thoroughbreds.
RPI has the league's leading scorer in Breanainn McNeally, who's tallied 55 points on 34 goals and 21 assists. JT Kelly is second on the team with 35 points on 13 goals and 22 assists. Tom Feenstra has gobbled up a team-leading 36 ground balls, while Peter Adorno leads the Engineers with 15 caused turnovers. In net, David Gibbs has started in all 10 games, posting an 8.85 goals against average with a .588 save percentage.
Last season, Skidmore dropped a 12-4 decision to RPI at Wachenheim Field on April 16. The Engineers have won the last three meetings between the two squads.
